How to Apply for Admission in Harvard Graduate school of education

Application Requirements for 2012-2013
A complete application to a doctoral or master's program consists of the following:
Online Application Form
2 Short Essay Questions (Ed.L.D. only)
$85 Application Fee - paid via credit card with the online application
Statement of Purpose
Three Letters of Recommendation (these must be submitted through the online application system)
Resume
Official Transcript(s) from each Postsecondary Institution Attended
International Transcript Request Form (77KB pdf) for each institution outside the United States
Standardized Test Score(s):
GRE (mandatory for all applicants)
GMAT (option for Ed.L.D. applicants ONLY who wish to submit in lieu of GRE scores)
TOEFL (if applicable)
For additional information about the application process, please visit our FAQ page. A printable version of the application instructions (398KB pdf) is also available.
Please note that interviews are only a part of the Ed.L.D. admissions process at HGSE, and will take place from March 1-2, 2012; there are no interviews for the Ed.D. or Ed.M. degree programs. Also, several programs have additional application requirements.
It is not possible to apply to multiple degree programs for the same academic year.
You must submit all of your required documents online except for your academic transcripts. We prefer that you collect all of your academic transcripts (each individual transcript should issued by the institution in a sealed envelope that bears an official signature, stamp, or seal) and place them together in one envelope before sending them to the Admissions Office.
When filling out the application, please enter your academic history as early as possible, so that we are able to match incoming transcripts to the schools you have entered. Once you have submitted your application, you will be able to view which transcripts the admissions office has received.
If you have unofficial, electronic copies of your academic transcripts, we encourage you to upload them into the Education section of your online application in order to facilitate online committee review. Please note that all applicants are still required to mail official transcripts to the Admissions Office.
After you enter the contact information for your three recommenders on your application, we will send each of them an email with instructions about logging onto our system. At that time, they will have the opportunity to fill out the Recommendation Form and upload a recommendation letter. Recommendations must be submitted online.

Predictions for 2011 The year of e-learning - a view from India

Always fun to watch as anyone in this time of year trying to guess how the rest of the year to come. Before you post my thoughts on the year of 2011, I believe, worth checking out  my predictions for the year 2010, published at about this time a year ago. That's what I predicted last year:

No.
Prediction
Fulfilled?
Analysis
For India
A.Distribution of training programs.
Yes
Supported by various government agencies, training programs have grown violent color in 2010 and will continue to rise in 2011
Two.Further spread of e-learning in government offices.
Yes
All of the public sector to the military in 2010, put requests for the purchase of e-learning systems - a trend will continue and expand
Three. The introduction of learning management systems in the sector of traditional education.
No
It did not receive such an extension, as I expected (at least not for us and the companies in the state of affairs that I know) - I hope 2011 will be different the second to the best
4.The movement toward online exams in different areas of education and testing in employment, especially in state agencies.
Yes
All India entrance test for engineering majors (AIEEE), J2EE, Final qualification test for engineers (GATE) and other organizations have begun to develop their own plans for the introduction of online testing. The industry looks every day more interesting.
Five.Social and mobile learning will continue to be in its infant stage of development.
Yes
In India, yet there is no significant movement in this direction, despite some interesting projects, such as Kinetic Glue. Tablet PCs may change this situation, if the price drops below 5,000 Indian rupees per share.
For global markets
6.
The explosive spread of electronic books.
No
In fact, I'm not quite sure about this, because we do not deal with too many e-books. But around them there was so much noise, as in the past year (and I myself, still, use a paper book) - try to suggest that a breakthrough is yet to come - maybe this year or next.
7.
Mobile learning at last show rapid growth.
Yes
iPad and Android - these two phenomena are shaped mobile world in 2010. Previously, it was about a new class of devices - tablet, now that they are available to all. We noted a great interest in developing content and applications for these mobile platforms - we expect that this segment will grow rapidly in 2011.
Eight.
Fast content will set the tone.
Yes
It was a no brainer. Customers and developers are moving away from unnecessary multimedia saturation of courses and focus on their effectiveness in a concise chart. This is the right trend and it will evolve.
9.
LMS will remain the main medium of delivery of training courses, the search for alternative media will continue.
Yes
Despite all the negative talk, LMS continued to be the main medium of electronic delivery of training courses in 2010. Community experts in professional training has not found an answer to the question of how to structure learning through social networks. So, the year 2011 will not be in this respect very different from 2010, the (at least in the corporate sector).
Seven of the nine - not bad for an amateur forecaster, is not it! Do you agree with the above analysis?
Now the forecasts for 2011. In addition to these trends there are several developments that I believe will have an impact next year:
    A. growth of online training sessions conducted "live" in India - the need is obvious - a wide geography and the lack of trainers. With the proliferation of 3G networks and the availability of tablet / notebook, I think we can see the beginning of the implementation of synchronous "live" training sessions for key field staff and distance learning this year.
    2. Birth controlled movements and interactive learning - Xbox Kinect and PS3 Move - a great technological innovation and have a great scope for use in training, especially in the segment of K-12. I am sure that very soon, developers will (if not done already), an innovative, exciting and fun course with the use of management techniques with the help of movements. I know that the Nintendo Wii EMS several years ago, but reading the movements without the use of controllers used in the Xbox Kinect and smoothness of the PS3 Move takes experience to another level and should lead to new and interesting developments.
    3. Funds will support the spread of performance - because the department of training and staff development adapts to current needs of users, will gain more weight to performance support tools, such as built-in toolbar, calculators, formed by the broad masses of users of the knowledge base with the ability to search, etc. I believe that this will begin in 2011.
    4. volume of outsourcing will continue to grow - the last economic downturn has forced many companies in the field of e-education and training departments are not used before outsourcing, the structural optimization of the start in order to achieve financial optimization. Due to the fact that outsourcing in the field of e-learning has become commonplace, and the process of developing e-learning courses has reached a certain stage of maturity, this model will spread even faster than before.
    5. Serious games will gain momentum - on the one hand, we observe a departure from the over-saturation of exchange multimedia content and distribution platforms for the rapid development of content. On the other hand, I feel a renewed interest in learning-based games. It is well suited for training new, young employees who are "digital natives jungle." We should see much more development in the field of serious games in 2011, the year.
    6. LMS still remain the main tool of e-learning - I know that I repeat my own last year's prediction is given in the table above. I'm doing this just to tease the doomsday preachers!

That is, I believe, will be the case in 2011. What are your thoughts?

Key Success Factors of Educational Technologies

A team of researchers from the project "Revolution in Education" ( Project RED ), with close ties to the institution of the Individual Training ( One-to-One Institute ), has recently published a report on best practices implementation of educational technologies in schools. From this we can see how technology affect the performance of pupils and reducing costs.
The report contains seven main conclusions. The first is that the positive impact of technology on the educational process is determined primarily by the following nine factors:
1. Technology is integrated into all classes of early intervention;
2. Director and other school leaders allocate appropriate time for training and joint work of teachers in the use of new technologies;
3. Students use technology to share learning,
4. Lessons from the use of embedded technologies are included in the basic training schedule at least once a week or more,
5. In examining the material, at least once a week, conducted an online evaluation of acquired knowledge and skills ;
6. The lower the number of students per computer, the better
7. Virtual travel are held monthly,
8. Students use search engines daily,
9. Director held training sessions on the following topics: how to support teachers of technology, best practices implementation of educational technologies, changes in the educational process, occurring as a result of the introduction of technology.

According to that report, about one percent of schools surveyed have implemented all nine points. School of individual learning, which made it significantly outperformed all other schools, including other schools of individual learning, which have adopted, not all key factors.

"The presence of computers in schools - this original action, which does not guarantee improvements in the learning of materials" - the report says. "Best practice implementation of technology is as important as the technology itself."

The report also noted a positive relationship between the right embedded technology and lower costs. According to these estimates, in the case of the widespread implementation in secondary schools in the U.S. system of education management, saving only copy on a national scale could be worth $ 739 million. On the other hand, the savings comes from reducing redundancy in data storage and software, reducing the cost of tracking and identifying the best educational materials for specific groups of students and reduce the number of expelled students.

The report says that gaining support from influential people in the school, for example, the director, is the key to successful implementation of technology, use of technology in the classroom early intervention improves the results shown in the tests and the level of assimilation of course material, reduces the number of expelled students. The report found that online interaction between students increase their productivity and engagement in the learning process, and the best results were achieved with daily use of educational technology.

Data were obtained from the study of the situation of almost a thousand schools in Washington and various cities in forty-nine states. The report states that during the study examined the state of affairs in specific schools, rather than the situation in the field of education in the region. This approach has allowed researchers to better understand the needs of students, teachers and school administrators.

I think that you're familiar with the names of some of the people running the project "Revolution in Education". This is Leslie Wilson ( Leslie Wilson ), the executive director of the Institute for Individual Training, Thomas Greaves ( Thomas Greaves ) of the Greaves Group, and Jane Hayes ( Hayes Jeanne ) of the Hayes Connection, and others .

If I want to get HTML5, what tools should I use?

Some of the most powerful tools available. Here's something: Adobe Captivate test output in HTML5, Articulate today announced the conclusion of HTML5 for the Storyline , and Allen Technologies is working on HTML5 for the withdrawal of ZebraZapps .

Well, in addition, I propose to draw attention to applications that are not specifically designed to create learning content, for example, Adobe Dreamweaver for a full authoring, or Tumult Hype , and Sencha Animator to create animations . This will not only expand your knowledge and skills, but also can help to broaden horizons in design ... especially if you have previously used the only means of rapid development.
